Thanks for Being Here
If you’re here, thank you. I plan to use this space for comments about my condition as well as occasionally comments about the condition of the world.
If you’re here, you’re likely a friend, family member, or colleague. But if you don’t know me, my name is David Curry and I am a former professor of Marketing Research, an expert skier, a musician, and a lover of life.
About my condition–as you may know, I was diagnosed with ALS (or Lou Gerig’s Disease, Stephen Hawking’s malady), in December of 2024. At first, the symptoms were mild. A few falls, hands that wouldn’t work well, and so on. In the past year, the disease has progressed rapidly so that I am fundamentally confined to either a bed or a hotshot wheelchair. I don’t want to dwell on my symptoms. I will say that Patty, my wife, looks after me with loving and constant care. My daughters Lauren, Olivia, and Monica have also been here every step of the way. My devoted friend and PhD student Xin Wang has touched me deeply by his frequent visits and general show of love. My local neighbors and friends are all spectacularly kind and helpful. And so, you can see I’m in good hands and mostly in good spirits.
If you know me, thank you for checking in. If you don’t, thank you for taking the time to find out more about me and this disease. Future posts will not be so depressing! I plan on conveying the fun things going on in my life.
With love,
David
